Liz Motshagen

Head Coach

Liz is a local pro surfer, fitness trainer and former pre-school teacher. Liz surfed competitively on the world tour and is still sponsored by local shapers and shops. She has surfed everywhere from Tahiti to South Africa, and was recently featured in the US Open of Surfing. She has 20+ years of experience coaching and instructing new and experienced surfers.

Growing up in California has given Liz a true appreciation for the ocean, surfing and fitness. As an instructor she aims to help every student find the same personal connection to the ocean that she has. She is a firm believer in small class sizes and plenty of one-on-one time with each student. This formula has allowed her to help hundreds of students learn how to surf.


Bryce Flores

Assistant Coach

Bryce is a sponsored local surfer that is featured weekly in local surfing blogs and across social media. He is sponsored by VulcanSurf Surf Boards, Advert Clothing, Long Way Home Leather Works and Asylum Surf Shop. He has a valuable knowledge of the local waves and conditions that he enjoys passing down to students. Bryce’s high energy and positivity help students get excited about learning to surf and loving the ocean. With 5 years of surf instruction experience, Bryce is sure to help every student find success in the water.

Kai Matteo

Assistant Coach

Kai Matteo is a sponsored local surfer that is excelling in the WSA circuit. He is currently ranked 3rd in the Mens 18-29 category. Kai is sponsored by world renowned shaper Chemistry Surfboards. His local knowledge and competition success make him a valuable instructor for surfers of all skill levels. As a coach Kai has what it takes to help new surfers love the water, and for experienced surfers to gain a competitive edge.


Thomas Schaper

Operations Director 

Thomas is the Operations Director for Tasty Waves. He has surfed nearly everyday from a young age. Living in Oceanside for nearly 5 years, and California for much of his life, has given Thomas a deep sense of appreciation for the coast. Outside the water Thomas has found success as a web developer and project manager for local media agencies. His tech skills help Tasty Waves keep an online presence and insure a smooth registration process for all students.
